Credit Crunch, Fah! Here is Free Stuff.
Our default overland map-making styles are distinctive, and so when people post such maps online, people recognise them as CC3 maps. We've got reproducing almost any map-making style as a style pack down to a fine art, so when it comes to all our many other map making styles, instead of saying "cool CC3 map", they just think "cool map."

Partly because of this, and also because we are persons of unparalleled generosity, [info]uthoroc has created two new vector-based styles free for all CC3 users. They are loosely based on two subscription styles, although they are distinct from them. They'll be available from the registered users' area early next week.

Why is Aridville next to a river? That's not very realistic. It's like having Hottown up in the mountains.

Oh, the ironies of history! Aridville was founded in the Year of the Green Plague by Isben Arid, twice-born Lord of the Desert.

That's what Isbenites would like to think anyway. If truth be told it was already an important staging post on the Sulphur route out of Southport, avoiding the plague of Marsh Pirates that had grown up following Isben's father's push to force the Recondite nomads north.

Very true. It's a little known fact that Aridville was not actually named after Isben Arid. In fact the name goes back Isben's great-great-great-great-grandfather Arid the Original, whos claim to fame lies in the deforestation of the whole area nowadays knows as the Southern Desert.

I particularly like the B&W style.

Having an old, old version of CC, and never very good at using it, how do these styles actually work in practice?

Take a look at the video demo, here. http://www.profantasy.com/community/user_tutorials.asp

All the styles work in a similar way. You pick a drawing style and a suitable template, and then all the drawing tools and symbols match the current style. So, if you click on a river and you have the BW style set, it will draw a river which looks like the the one above. With some variations, you can build overland maps using the same set of buttons and tools. At the end, you turn effects on.

Having a new, new version of CC, I've got to say that the new is a great improvement over the old. OTOH, the UI is not for everybody.

Both are really nice Ralf/Simon.. but come to expect as much ;)

the irony of Aridville is not lost on me.. I grew up in a small town called 'Sea Lake'.... the nearest Ocean was 450km away.. it lies in the middle of the Mallee.. the only thing that comes close.. Lake Tyrrell a Massive 'Salt Lake' about 10km north of the town...
