I like it! You begin with a hint of sounds from a coastline, build up slowly and then begin with the music that signals peril and danger... and then back to the water.

Awesome! Does this mean you're considering a ToC soundtrack? If so, sign me up! :)

It’s very good. It’s dynamic, implies some sort of action going on – a chase, perhaps?

My only comment is that it would be cool to have tracks that a slower, that you play for ambience and mood-setting in the background.

I like it, overall. It's very pulpy, but maybe not cthulhu-y enough for me. I liked the subtle use of creepy violin-like sounds in the beginning and would like there to be more of that.

So: A little less pulp, and a little more Cthulhu (creepy trilling violins, perhaps that chilling string plucking sound they used in X-Files a lot) and I think it's a slice of fried gold.

As it is, it's great anyways! I'm just ridiculously picky.

What did you think of the soundtrack to the Call of Cthulhu "silent" movie?

I like it so much I sell it at conventions ;-)

But you can get it here:

It's great, but not after the 100th time.

I liked it just fine, though I'm not into RPG mood music much.

James Semple is doing music and sound effects to be played during ToC adventures. We'd like GMs to be able to layer the sounds (eg, wind loop + storm loop + city noise loop + looped music) to make background textures.

I love that idea. I've often used two CD players in my games- one playing the sounds of wind/storms/outdoors and the other playing background music.

Add in a couple of strobes on wireless remote for "lightning" and you've got a night of truly immersive gaming. :)

I'm afraid it builds up to too much of a crescendo for my taste for a Trail of Cthulhu suitable piece. Pulp yes, Cthulhu no (this could change if the crescendo was more panicky and ended with a splat, if you get what I mean). Nice use of minor chords in the quiet bits though.

Speaking of other Cthulhoid-themed music, have you heard Cyoaka Grace's Unknown Music from Dream Quest of Kadath (made for a film version of the Dream Quest). [CD Baby link]

Tried listening to it a few times. The link either times out on me or the site freezes/crashes the window on any PC I've been using.

Any chance You'll hace a CD I can listen to over at your place?

I like it! You should make it even scratchier, like an old LP... Hmmm... I'm trying to remember what kind of music the computer game "Alone in the Dark" had? The Blue Danube, right?

I think it was a little too smooth, though... I want to hear it like a gramophone record coming from an old Victrola (of course, if you're playing in the 1930s, it won't be all that old...).

hi Alan here

You did a great job on that music it realy is amazing to me that you made that.

unfortunately dispite how good it is if I had it on during my game it would probably be destracting. The sharp high points and alternating from quick to slow rapidly is hard to deal with because the music can sharply rise at the wrong time and drown you out or if you turn the volume down it sounds great but you can only hear it during the high/ loud parts.

What you did would be FANTASTIC for a TV show or a Movie you should seriously look into getting some work in that field.
